What It Does + Personal Why

Contradiction + Resolution
Example: “Bright premise in dark colors is deliberate. The film makes you want the hero story and then gives it in the wrong colors.”

Just the “Why”
Example: “Anxiety-driven, not jump scares—feel their heart racing. Desperation is contagious—their survival pressure becomes yours.”
Core Principle
Notes capture why a film matters to you, not what happens in it. They are data about your experience, not reviews of the film.

When you finish a film and don’t know where to start, find your film type and scan the suggested vocabulary.

Notes Audit Checklist
Before you save your note, run through this checklist. If you’re missing any of these, your note isn’t done.
Does it say what the film feels like, not what it’s about?
Does it name your specific nervous system state? (suffocating, vibrating, numb, etc.)
Does it explain why you revisit (or don’t)? What’s the cost?
If metrics don’t align (e.g., 9.0 score but “no” rewatch), is the tension explained?
Is it concrete and specific, rather than generic?
Would only YOU write this note, or could anyone?
Did you use 2-3 adjectives specific to this film’s tone?
Is the note fragmented/short? (Does NOT need to be a paragraph.)

Write the answer in fragments. Don’t worry about sentences. Honest, specific, and personal notes help AI understand exactly how you regulate emotional weight and narrative pressure. Your notes are data about you.
